Genesee and Wyoming invests in railway

Genesee and Wyoming Inc (GWI) has paid $A334 million to buy the concession to operate the Tarcoola to Darwin Railway (AustralAsia Railway) and assets of FreightLink Pty Ltd, the Asia Pacific Consortium and joint venture sellers.

The 2200 kilometre line links East Arm Port in Darwin to the interstate rail network in South Australia.

FreightLink started operations in January 2004 after the new $1.3 billion Alice Springs to Darwin leg of the railway was opened.
